The أغر؟´«أ½ County Animal Care and Control Adoption Center will be closed Wednesday and Thursday due to a dog testing positive for parvovirus, the organization announced in a press release.
The veterinary team conducted further testing and found four additional cases. The shelter is closing to prevent a potential outbreak.
Parvovirus is a contagious virus that mainly affects dogs; vaccines are available, but if left untreated, the virus can be fatal.آ
The pause will allow vets to treat the affected dogs, vaccinate animals who are unvaccinated and boost the ones who are, the organization said. They also plan to expand testing and treatment protocols in order to catch and manage any new or developing cases.
Staff will also deep clean and disinfect the facility.
أغر؟´«أ½ County took back control of the facility from the Animal Protective Association in February. Prior to that, the APA had control over the shelter since December 2022.
