ST. LOUIS COUNTY — The boy shot and killed in a north ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ County neighborhood was a football star, a family member said, who lived with his family in a small house here.
His father, Marshaun Futrell Sr., was charged Tuesday with three counts of felony child endangerment. Police said they searched the house and a car and found a dozen guns.
“Many of these guns were loaded, unsecured, and accessible to the children in the home,†ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ County police Officer Jerry Ball wrote in charging documents.
Futrell’s son, Marshaun Futrell Jr., 11, died at a hospital shortly after 8 p.m. Monday.
His great aunt, Shirley “TT†Henderson, said Marshaun was a football star with the Mathews-Dickey Boys & Girls Club team. He’s also seen in several photos on his father’s Facebook page in his football gear. One post said he was selected to play in the 2025 United Youth Sports All-American Bowl.

Across the ÃÛÑ¿´«Ã½ region this year, at least 20 children have been shot as of Tuesday. Eleven of them, including Marshaun, have died; two children were under the age of 5.
Officers were called to Marshaun’s shooting Monday night in the 1800 block of Longford Drive, about a block outside Ferguson.
A 13-year-old witness told them that Marshaun had two guns in a backpack and the two were playing with the guns, according to charging documents.
One of the guns fired and hit Marshaun, police said.
Police said officers searched the house and a vehicle parked outside and found 12 guns.
Futrell, 33, told police he owned all of them, including the gun that was fired, court records said.

Henderson, the boy’s aunt, said she was outside grilling when the shooting happened.
“The food was not even off the grill good enough and I heard her screaming,†Henderson said of Marshaun’s mother. “And I just ran out and she was coming out the house. And you could tell where it happened, she came out the front door. And when I went over there, she got to him before I could get over there.â€
Henderson said Marshaun lived there with his parents and two siblings — a toddler and a baby.
Family members told Henderson that Marshaun was shot in the head. They said it appeared he was in or near the front passenger seat of a black Range Rover when the shooting happened. That car was still parked in the driveway’s home on Tuesday morning.
“I’m thinking someone else was involved,†Henderson said, trying to piece together what could have happened.
She said the family lived a quiet life and was protective of Marshaun and his siblings.
Henderson said Futrell, the boy’s father, works security at QuikTrip.
Online records show he was booked into the county jail at 2 a.m. Tuesday still wearing his uniform.
He was being held on a $100,000 bond.
